Turning Spring VKRP Data into Action

Spring VKRP data offers a powerful opportunity to reflect on student growth and plan next steps. Explore key resources in VAConnects, including Family Resource Packets, Instructional Supports, and the new Reports Training Module, to turn insights into action. This blog shows how to make the most of your data as you finish the year strong!

Making the Most of Spring VKRP Data and Resources

Now that we have completed the VKRP Spring Assessment Term, this is a great time for reflection, planning, and having meaningful conversations around the student data that VKRP provides. We offer a variety of resources in VAConnects, designed to help educators and leaders make the most of their data. These resources include Family Resource Packets, Instructional Resources, Interpreting Reports, and an exciting new addition this spring, our Reports Training Module.  

Why Spring Resources Matter

Spring data provides a comprehensive snapshot of student progress across the year. It’s an opportunity to: 
 
  • Reflect on growth and outcomes 
  • Identify areas of strength and need 
  • Inform instruction and end-of-year supports 
  • Communicate meaningful insights with families 
 
VKRP’s spring resources are built to support all these goals, helping turn data into action. 
 

Key Resources to Revisit

There are several resources that are familiar to the world of VKRP that are useful to revisit each term. All of these resources can be found in VAConnects under VKRP > Resources, and all of them offer both pre-k and kindergarten options. Educators report that the following resources are the ones that they find particularly helpful at the conclusion of an assessment term: 
 
  • Family Resource Packets – These packets offer school readiness resources with links to activities that can be shared with families. You can locate these under the Family Support tab under Resources. The Family Resources packets include activities that families can do over the summer with their children to ensure the learning continues over the summer break.
  • Instructional Resources – Using VKRP data, educators can focus on areas of instruction and pull resources and activities related to specific math domains and subdomains, as well as social skills and self-regulation. The Instructional Resources tab offers a dropdown to the list of domains to choose from.
  • Interpreting Reports – Each term, the VKRP team releases an Interpreting Reports document that outlines details related to Pre-K Skill Development Bands and Kindergarten Benchmarks, the features of classroom- and student-level reports, and how to share spring data and growth information with families. This resource can be found under the Data Interpretation tab.  

New Resource Spotlight: Reports Training Module

VKRP launched a new training module that specifically focuses on the VKRP reports for both pre-kindergarten and kindergarten educators. This module, An Introduction to Reports on VAConnects, is a great option for educators and leaders who want a deeper understanding of: 
 
  • The full range of reports available in VAConnects
  • How to access and navigate those reports
  • Ways to use reports to support instruction and program planning 
 
Whether you’re new to VKRP or just looking for a refresher, this training offers a clear, structured walkthrough to build confidence and maximize your use of the VKRP reports available in VAConnects. You can access the module in VAConnects > VKRP > Resources > Training & Support > Training Modules.
