A Focus on VKRP Instructional Resources

Elementary school kids raising hands to teacher

VKRP has developed a wide range of instructional resources to help teachers and school administrators support students’ mathematics, self-regulation, and social skills. The resources were developed by researchers at the Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) with expertise in teacher-child interactions and instruction. Many of them have been used as part of professional development programs for teachers. PALS also has a library of resources to support children’s literacy skills.

VKRP skill and strategy guides provide information on a learning domain, how skills develop within that domain, and how they can be supported throughout the day. Within the skill and strategy guides, VKRP also includes suggested activities that support early learning skills, and can be used to help students one-on-one, in small groups, or as a whole classroom. The activities are not intended to replace curricula, but instead can be used to supplement instruction in the classroom

Accessing the VKRP Resources

VKRP instructional resources are available on a teacher’s VKRP assessment portal.  The resources are organized in a library by domains and skills across the areas of mathematics, self-regulation, and social skills.

Log into your PALS PreK-3 account and click on the VKRP tab.

On the VKRP landing page, click on Instructional Resources in the blue menu bar. You can access any of the mathematics, self-regulation, or social skills resources by using the dropdown under Instructional Resources. Resources for math are provided at the subdomain level (numeracy, computation, patterning, geometry) while social-emotional resources are provided at the domain level (self-regulation, social skills).

These resources are also linked within the VKRP reports. Resource links will display on student and classroom reports. When clicked, the links will take teachers directly to the instructional resource pages of the web portal to explore activities for their individual students and classroom.

In addition to the Instructional Resources available through the VKRP web portal, the VKRP website also includes a carefully curated list of websites that can be used as tools to support the use of evidence-based instructional techniques and/or to supplement instruction in the classroom.

We will continue to add resources and look forward to hearing your feedback about these or other resources that have been helpful in supporting students readiness skills.

Our team THANKS YOU for your participation in VKRP!
